Using The New PhishTwibe.com
Welcome to the new PhishTwibe.com, which was developed for the Twibe and with with the Twitter community specifically in mind – and to that end we’ve done some things we think you should all know about!
First off, this new site is 100% “responsive”. That means your mobile device, your iPad, your computer and even your flatscreen TV will load PhishTwibe.com in a useable, readable way. That’s right - you can visit PhishTwibe.com on your iPhone or mobile device and it’ll “just work”, yet you can load the site up on your big-ass TV during setbreak the next time you #CouchTour and let everyone watch along. Long story short, if it has a screen and a web browser, it can load this site (and it’ll look GOOD)!
Second, you’ll notice you are now REQUIRED to be “Logged In” to PhishTwibe.com to post a comment – this is on purpose! We don’t want SPAM, but we do want YOU. And so to take the sting out of asking for you to create yet another web account, we are allowing you to use your Twitter account to both “Register” and “Log In” to PhishTwibe.com starting today.
Once you register for the site, you’ll have freedom to comment on both blog posts, as well as in the Comments section of TweetUps. In the near future we plan on adding a forum, as well as the opportunity for YOU to contribute updates and photos, or even create TweetUps, all using your PhishTwibe.com Log In!
If you take a moment to Register with PhishTwibe.com using your Twitter credentials just ONCE right now, you’ll forever have an account on the site that lets you Log In with just one click (as long as you are already logged in to Twitter). Here’s how to register:
Click here, use the “Log In” link in the main menu, or find a “Log In” link anywhere else on the site – these are at the bottom of every post in the Comments section, or at the very bottom right-hand corner of every single page on the website.
Click the “Connect With Twitter” button on the ensuing Log In page.
You’ll be redirected to Twitter.com – follow Twitter’s process to authorize the PhishTwibe.com App to connect to your Twitter account.
Depending upon if you are logged in or not already on your computer, you MAY have to enter your username and password. Don’t worry, we don’t get that info. You are ONLY authorizing Twitter to give us some very basic credentials, just like you give the mobile apps on your phone.
After you’ve Authorized your Twitter account to connect with PhishTwibe.com, you’ll be redirected back to PhishTwibe.com, where you’ll see a similar Log In screen as before, but this time asking for your E-mail. Enter your E-mail address and hit the “Register” button.
PLEASE NOTE: It says ERROR, but this isn’t really an Error – in fact it is to be expected! Unlike Facebook, Google+ and other services, Twitter DOES NOT pass your email address along as part of Authorization.
This may add an “extra” step to PhishTwibe.com’s registration process, but is actually beneficial to users vs. Facebook Connect – you can choose which email is connected to your PhishTwibe.com account, rather than a Social Network assuming for you which email you’d like to use .
We hate SPAM as much as you, so don’t worry! We will NOT EVER use or sell your email address for commercial or marketing purposes.
You’re done – congrats!
You’ll be redirected back to the page you started at (now you can leave that comment!) and you’ll get an email confirmation that includes a password you can use to log in in case Twitter is ever down.
You will also start to see an “Admin Bar” across the top of the site, with options to do things like update your profile.
If any of this doesn’t work for you, please let me know – send me an email, or I’m available on Twitter: @AndrewJStone. And assuming it did work, congratulations on your new PhishTwibe.com account! From now on, whenever you visit the site, just click one of the “Log In” links in pointed out in Step 1, hit the “Connect With Twitter” button, and just like that you’ll be signed in and ready to go!
So, now you’ve registered and logged in. What’s next? Want to spruce up your Profile? Just visit this link (or use the black Admin Bar across the top of this page) – you can update your email address, change your password, customize your Display Name, give yourself a bio, and more!
We know this may sound like a lot, but with the amazing summer tour ahead, we think you’ll find it worth it. So jump right in! I (@AndrewJStone) will be in the comments below, answering questions and troubleshooting. Please be patient while we iron out the final issues, and let us know if you have ANY questions. Thanks all!
